Shane Watson revels in glory of special knock at Mirpur as Bangladesh shell shocked – Cricket News
Australia’s opening batsman Shane Watson smashed a magnificent knock that sealed a remarkable win for the four time World Champions against lowly http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in a completely one-sided match at Mirpur in Dhaka.
Watson belted the bowlers all around the park. He favoured the leg side in particular as one six after another kept clattering in the stands over the arc between mid-wicket and long-on. Watson belted a world record 15 sixes completely
flattening the woeful hosts who had no idea what had struck them. Similar was the case in the stands with bewildered fans stunned in silence against the blazing bat of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326.
The all-rounder was a happy man at the end of his brutal knock, as he claimed that he was tired and wanted to hit as many runs as possible through boundaries at the end of his innings.
Besides his sixes tally he peppered the boundary 15 times, which means that 150 out of his 180 runs came off fours and sixes. He added that he was trying to hit the ball towards the shorter boundary and luckily for him the runs kept
flowing of his bat like a tornado.
"The reason I kept going after [reaching] 100 is because I was tired, and I didn't really want to run too much; I was either going to try to hit as many sixes as I could or get out because I was pretty tired, that was as simple as
it was. It was hot and humid out there, so it was nice to be able to get a few out of the middle to save my running."
The big hitting batsman and all-rounder is also now the team's vice-captain. He is plagued with fatigue which is an ever-present issue for him and he revealed his preference for batting second in limited-overs contests where he knows
well what the target is for the team and he can make an adjustment in accordance with the situation.
"It's always actually easier batting second; although you do get pretty hot from bowling first, it means I can actually get through my batting innings knowing I don't have to bowl next and don't have to use my energy," Watson said.
"So my preferred way of playing one-day cricket personally, is actually batting second because you don't need the energy”.
Watson has been in great form of late, in the first game of the seven match One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, he smashed a similar century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground taking his team past a stiff victory target.
Shane thinks that on the flip side if things come off like the way they did in Mirpur today he can coast home and not spend too much energy in running between the wickets.
The innings was in sheer contrast to the effort of the Bangladeshi top order which was made to face the hostility of the Australian new ball attack comprising of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419 and Mitchell Johnson. Both bowlers were making the ball talk
in the morning session. The two seasoned bowlers reduced the Bangladeshis to a precarious score of 28/3 soon after they were reeling at 88/5.
They only succeeded in crossing the 200 mark through a fine effort by their wicket-keeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045. His innings unfortunately was completely overshadowed by the brutality of Watson who was in a very special zone turning
everything he touched to gold.
The third and final ODI between the two teams will be played on 14 April.
