The Australian vice-captain, Shane Watson, is wary of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390, and said that they have to find a way to get the experienced Guyana batsman out in the ensuing innings if they are
to win the three-Test series against Windies.
In the opening Test of the three-match series, which kick started at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown on Saturday, April 7, 2012, the Australian bowlers struggled for penetration against a settled Windies top order, especially the veteran
batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Three of the top five batsmen scored half centuries while Chanderpaul struck a meticulous unbeaten hundred to take the side to a competitive first innings total of 449 for 9, declared.
Shane Watson, the 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 all-rounder, was all praise for the promising Guyana batsman and insisted that they have to find a way to put a halt to Chanderpaul’s blitz in the remainder of the series.
"We're going to have to [find a way], because we don't want him to bat for as long as he did, through this whole series,” said the Australian vice captain.
“...He is a true champion, we're going to have to bowl really well to him throughout the series to hopefully not let him have as much impact as he did today," he insisted.
Chanderpaul, the 37-year-old former West Indies skipper, stayed at the crease for six-and-a-half hours, to score an unbeaten 103 before the home skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 announced to declare the innings. The century knock saw Chanderpaul
get past Brian Lara’s record of being the highest run scorer at Bridgetown.
Pleased after putting the hosts in a strong position in the Test series opener, Chanderpaul said that he had never thought of passing Brian Lara’s milestone.
"I never expected to be the person who had the most runs at Kensington...To have the most runs is a h**l of an achievement at Kensington," said Chanderpaul.
“We've been setting the plans and the goals for the team...We've all been working hard towards it. I'm happy to see that we actually achieved them today," he added further.
Chanderpaul has to date played 137 Tests compiling a tally of 9709 runs at an impressive average of 49.28. The tally includes 24 centuries and 56 fifties.
