Shane Williams to bid farewell to the sport – Rugby News update
The Welsh flyer, Shane Williams, has decided to hang his boots and bid farewell to the sport. In his career, he has represented Wales on 87 occasions, and also played 4 tests for the British and Irish Lions. He will wear Ospreys' shirt for the final time
against Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday evening.
Everyone is excited to bid farewell to a legend of the game. Shane made his test debut for Wales against France at the Millennium Stadium on 5 February 2000, and played his last game for his country at the same venue against Australia on 3 December 2011.
In his illustrious career, he passed the magical 50 figure for the number of tries by a player. In total he ended with 58 tries for his country and some of them crucial and match winning efforts.
The forwards coach of Ospreys was all praise for Williams and he believes that the Liberty Stadium will see the largest turn out of the season, to bid adieu to a darling. Humphrey said of the occasion, "It's great for the Ospreys and it's great for Shane
that so many people want to come and say farewell to him.”
The importance of the game cannot be underestimated either. Ospreys currently occupy the 2nd position in RaboDirect PRO12 standings and they will want to cement a place in the play-offs with Munster just two points behind the team.
Due to this reason, Humphreys is of the opinion that William’s last match will give a lift to the players, resulting in enthralling performances.
"It'll definitely give the boys a big lift to run out in front of so many fans. With the biggest crowd of the season present it'll be doubly important that we show the right attitude and desire so that we don't disappoint them. We want to see them at the
Liberty regularly next season and the way to do that is put on a performance that they can be proud of," he said.
Shane Williams would want to give in a performance that will cement his position as a legend of the sport and he deserves that.
