this my seem a little bit unrealistic but i think he somewhat is:

he was overhyped comming out of duke and drafted 6th overall in the 2001 draft.

i feel that being a sixth overall pick he hasn't lived up to the hype

yes hes a great great defender but, he hasn't put up big numbers, and hes failed to be the winner he was in college.

his numbers (career) 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assits 1 steal and block

best season (rookie year) 15 points, 5.5 boards, 2 assits

second reason why hes a bust is that there were all stars and other solid players selected after him * denotes all star

*Joe Johnson (10th pick)

Richard Jefferson (13rth pick)

Zach Randolph (19th pick)

Gerald Wallace (25th pick)

Samuel Dalembert (26th pick)

*Tony Parker (28th pick)

*Gilbert Arenas (31st pick)

*Mehmet Okur (38th pick)

4 all stars selected after battier

what do you think?

  1. Here's the thing about Battier, he came from a team system and will always be a team system typ of player.  That's why he fits in well with the Rockets and why so many playoff teams try to trade for him at the deadline.  You don't have to run plays for him, he's an excellent on the ball defender, and if he gets an open shot he'll take it without hesitation.  He's an unselfish player who make other guys on the team better.  As for the guys on your list, you also have to consider the team's needs.  Why would you take Okur or Dalembert when your team just drafted gasol?  Joe Johnson, Arenas and Parker are all guards and couldn't play the positions that Battier does.  Zach Randolph is a blackhole in the post; the ball goes in and it never comes back out.  Plus, he missed an entire season with a microfracture surgery.  Gerald Wallace I am a big fan of, but the most games he's ever played was 72...one time. That leaves Jefferson.  I would say RJ has had a better career but to me that's one guy on the list and 12 other teams passed on him too.  So did a lot of people expect more from him, yes.  However, if you look at scout, player, and coaching comments about him he's well respected for his play. I think if he spent most of his career on a cellar dwellar he would have much higher scoring stats.  Look at his averages with the Grizz, as they got better he scored less.

  2. Put him on The hornets and they win the title!

  3. Battier was never projected as a all star team leader coming out of Duke. He was a solid defender with a lot of grit and able to produce immediately. Vancouver saw that and took him.

He was seen as a perfect role player and pretty much is that right now. He was essentially what Vancouver drafted him for.

Although I'd like to add, anyone in the 2001 draft is a bust (I'm looking at you Eddy Curry) when you see Tony Parker and Agent Zero come in the tail end of the first round. If only the Bulls had San Antonio's scouting dept...

  4. Yeah, he's a bust if you compare him to those players above. He makes up for his low scoring with great D though and has developed into a 3 pt specialist also.

  5. ya i guess u can say he is a slight bust.  I mean he was player of the year in college.  Even a bigger bust though was Mike Dunleavy Jr. who was selected 3rd overall.  At least Battier has found his nak in the NBA and thats defend and spot up for three, 2 categories on which he is great at.

  6. i thinks hes overrated i mean sure hes a good defender but at 6 hes a bust he is a nice addition to the rockets but he isnt that good he"ll only be decent

  7. yea he is a bust. i thought he was going to be more of a scorer, but he's just a defender and nothing else.

  8. i think he should be a 2ad rounder not a 1st and tony parker shuold be 1overall

  9. If he was a bust then how does he limited the best players to the amount of points they score. (Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Paul Pierce, etc) I dont think hes a bust. Him and Ron Artest are gonna shut down every team.

  10. naw i wouldnt call him a bust although he went too high (proabably shouldve gone like 20th he is a great defender, 3 pt shooter.. and if he were on a crappy team he would prolly average around 16 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assists.. its because he is more of a role player

  11. for draft position he's a bust. but as a player he's found his niche. i think that because he is so well thought of as a person and as a player that they never really feel the need to knock him down a peg because he was drafted number 6 overall.

    the duke curse lives on!

they get drafted high or low and somehow someway they fall apart or don't live up to their respective college glory.

    bobby hurley

    christian lattner

grant hill (he gets a semi-pass cuz he was killing teams, then injuries.)

    jay williams

    trajen langdon

    will avery

    danny ferry

    j.j. redick

    Shavlik Randolph

    Shelden Williams

    Johnny Dawkins

...brand has been great. and maggette is a stat hog that won't help a team win. carlos boozer is good. dunleavy jr. is okay, but most duke players do not live up to their hype out of college.

  12. b***s

  13. i wouldnt say he is a bust, because he is a decent nba player, a great defender, and can knock down open 3s. a bust is a guy who is out of the nba or just flat out sucks and cant make the team or is buried on the bench. but battier is a good nba player, not a bust. sure he hasnt lived up to his draft slot but not many players do.

  14. He's a good player.Whoever said he would be a great player was wrong.

So no he's not a bust at all.
