Shanghai Masters 2010: Garcia-Lopez and Novak Djokovic storm into quarter-finals
The twenty seven year old, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain recorded his second top ten victory in two weeks after getting the better of grass court grand slam runner up, Tomas Berdych to successfully make his way into the quarter-final round of 2010 Shanghai
Rolex Masters on Thursday.
The final match score was 7-6(4), 6-3 and the clash concluded in forty minutes. The Spanish sensation, who turned pro back in 2002, played some impressive tennis in his today’s clash against the seventh seed Berdych.
The right-handed Guillermo is coming off his quarter-final appearance at the 2010 Rakuten Japan Open where he extended his winning streak by defeating Rajeev Ram and Feliciano Lopez in the initial rounds. In the final eight, the Spaniard however was hammered
down by Viktor Troicki in three sets.
At 2010 Shanghai Masters, the La Roda resident earlier got the better of Eduardo Schwank in his first round clash while in the second round; he met Andy Roddick, who withdrew as a result of his injury. Guillermo will next face the world number two, Novak
Djokovic of Serbia in the quarter-final.
He started his today's match under close competition and took his opening break during the seventh game of the first set. A chance was wasted when he lost his serve during the tenth game to provide Tomas an opportunity to bounce back which he did and as
a result, pushed the set into a break.
After losing his control at 4-3, Tomas once again provided Garcia-Lopez a golden opportunity which he grabbed and won the opening set by 7-6(4). The following set did not change the story much as Garcia Lopez sealed his victory with the help of a decisive
break during the fourth game.
Meanwhile, the second seed Novak Djokovic also overpowered his French opponent, Richard Gasquet in two sets to advance into the quarters. The final match score was 6-1, 6-1.
