Shanghai Masters 2010: Rafael Nadal endures smashing defeat as
Roger Federer proceeds
The 29-year-old, Jurgen Melzer from Austria outstandingly defeated the world number one Spaniard, Rafael Nadal at 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters currently being held in Shanghai. Melzer proved a bit too tough for the world champ.
It was a three setter clash between the two tennis aces as the world number twelve Austrian showed his talent and class like never before and caused a sensational upset of the tournament. Melzer totally outclassed Nadal in the first set after which, the
Spaniard fought back and recovered well in the second set, thus levelling the match.
The third decisive set was won by the Austrian. Melzer kept his nerve and conquered the battle in a victorious way. The final match score was 6-1, 3-6, and 6-3. The Austrian served brilliantly and his work over his stronger points was truly remarkable. Nadal
tried his best to recover but failed in the end. Later, while expressing delight on his win, the Austrian said that he had remained strong on his key points and his focus had helped him in the match.
The French Open semi-finalist continued that the match was truly motivating and inspiring for him. Jurgen Melzer will now face Juan Monaco of Argentina in the top four stage. On the other hand, Rafael Nadal admitted that he was slightly out of touch and
wasn't able to concentrate fully during the match. He also accepted that his game was a quite disappointing one and he was slow as compared to his opponent.
In another important match of the tournament, the Swiss legend and former world number one, Roger Federer saw off his Italian rival, Andreas Seppi after a convincing battle by 6-3, 6-4. It is the first tournament for the Swiss champ after the 2010 US Open.
Federer made a break in the first set but was taken to deuce as the rival fought hard for a comeback.
The world number fifty eight showed some good tennis in the second set and successfully defended his four break points. But, Federer showed his class and finally snatched victory. Later, Federer stated that it was a tough match and Seppi gave him a good
challenge. The Swiss veteran added that he was happy to have made a good recovery in the match.
