Shanghai Rolex Masters 2010: Rafael Nadal sends Stanislas Wawrinka packing
The top-ranked Spaniard, Rafael Nadal bundled out his Swiss opponent, Stanislas Wawrinka in a two-setter clash to make his way into the third round of 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters men’s singles competition on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4.
Stanislas, despite losing, had a good fight with the world number one but, Nadal never looked in danger at any stage of the match against the world number twenty one. The Spaniard will next take on Jurgen Melzer, who breezed into the third round after knocking
out Daniel Gimeno-Taylor in two sets.
Meanwhile, the other top-ranked Roger Federer also cruised into the next round after surpassing John Isner in two sets with a score line of 6-3, 6-4. The world number two, Novak Djokovic as well breezed past Ivan Ljubicic by 6-3, 6-3.
"Playing against Stanislas, it is impossible to have an easy match. He is a good player and it was difficult to win in straight sets,” said Nadal after his victory.
Federer, on the other hand in his clash against Isner, looked quite impressive and played some great tennis right from the start. The second seed Serbian, who had successfully defended his Beijing title last week, concluded the match against Ivan in just
eighty minutes.
Ivan had brushed aside Andy Murray while advancing into the semi finals at the China Open last week. He didn’t put up much of a fight against Djokovic, who dominated the match right from the start.
Moreover, the world number five, Robin Soderling also reached the third round of the Shanghai Masters after dismissing Janko Tipsarevic with 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) while Andy Roddick pulled out of his match against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez from Spain at 6-3, 2-3 due
to his thigh injury.
Mikhail Youzhny, who is seeded number eight, was crushed by Florian Mayer in three sets whereas the fourteen seed, Marin Cilic was defeated by his Italian opponent, Andreas Seppi in two sets.
David Ferrer, the eleventh seed also reached the third round with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory over Thomasz Bellucci of Brazil whereas Jo-Wilfried Tsonga overpowered Sam Querrey in straight sets. The final match score was 7-6 (9-7) 6-1.
Richard Gasquet will now take on Novak Djokovic after the French player defeated Gael Monfils in three sets with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Additionally, Novak is confident that a busy schedule will not affect his game and form at the season ending Barclays
ATP World Tour in London.
He stated that his energy level and motivation is skyrocketing at the moment and he is hopeful that it will stay the same till the end of the year. The champion this season at the Shanghai Rolex Masters will secure 1,000 ranking points.
