Shannon Stone's widow thanks the Texas Rangers for support – MLB News
Shannon Stone may have gone, but his memories live. The eager fan of the Texas who died while catching a ball during the Ranger game has left a widow and a child who can only relish in the thought of the departed soul.
Jenny Stone, the widow of unfortunate fan, on Tuesday thanked the Texas Rangers and Josh Hamilton who reached out to her in the moments of extreme grief. The widow especially expressed her gratitude for the support rendered by the Rangers.
"We are also thankful for Nolan Ryan, Josh Hamilton, the Texas Rangers, the Rangers fans, and all baseball fans, which have showed such concern and compassion," Jenny Stone wrote in her first public comments.
Asked if Josh Hamilton’s call came as a surprise to her, she nodded in affirmative. As baseball and the Texas Rangers will remain special to her and her six year old son, the team’s reaching to the widow holds a lot of significance.
“I was not surprised that he (Hamilton) would act just like we all see him, as a true Texas gentleman,” she said. “Josh Hamilton remains Cooper's favourite baseball player, the Texas Rangers will always be our team, and baseball will always be our favourite
game”
Shannon died last Thursday while watching the game with anticipated fascination. He was present in the ground with his six year old son. The scene capturing him while he tried to catch the ball and fall continues to haunt baseball fans.
As it made headlines throughout the United States in both print and electronic media, there was a flood of condolence messages for the untimely and unfortunate death of the fan.

The fire-fighting department that Stone belonged to also commemorated the death, including keeping the flag half-mast in the honour of the deceased. Stone was a lieutenant in the fire-fighting department and was considered as a selfless hardworking individual
in the community.
The outpouring of sympathy coming from almost every quarter has overwhelmed Jenny Stone who misses her husband sorely. However, her message of thanks that was given to the media and the content it held substantiates she is a strong woman willing to go ahead
with life.
