Shannon “The Cannon” lashes out at David Haye
Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs (51-5, 45 KOs) sure isn’t forgetting to take advantage of the media ops for his upcoming WBC title bout with Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs).
Briggs will be fighting for a place in heavyweight history against titlist Klitschko on October 16 in Germany. He has already started considering future plans, and spoke candidly about other competition in the division, specifically calling out WBA champion
David Haye after Haye avoided negotiations with him earlier this year.
"David Haye disrespected me, but to all of those other people. It just shows you how much of a coward David Haye is,” Briggs said. “I wanted to fight David Haye before the Klitschkos stepped up to the plate. But David Haye didn't jump up to the opportunity
to fight me because he knew that he would get his a** whupped.”
Haye will take on European heavyweight champion Audley Harrison on November 13. Many have attacked his choice of Harrison as an opponent, who is a former Olympic gold medalist but in the eyes of many has failed to live up to expectations since. Haye has
been criticized more widely for failing to fight worthy competition, such as Wladimir Klitschko or Alexander Povetkin.
Briggs’s frustration with Haye was compounded after he heard about a recent video in which Haye poked fun at his severe asthma. "In his latest wacky video, Haye called me Shannon 'Give Me Cartridges For Asthma' Briggs. But this isn't only an insult to
me, but to everyone in the world who is suffering from this disease,” Briggs said. “For this reason, he will be number two on my list of victims, after Vitali. Once I deal with David Haye, the first heavyweight boxer with a heavyweight mouth, the next victim
on the waiting list will be Wladimir [Klitschko]."
Briggs said that while asthma afflicted his early fighting days, he has been able to remedy it with new medication.
