Shanshan Feng grabs title at World Ladies Championship
The World Ladies Championship ended with a flurry of excitement at Mission Hills, Hainan Island, China, with Shanshan Feng recording an impressive victory.
Hailing from China, Feng outperformed her rivals in an amazing style, as she grabbed a 1-stroke triumph.
She made sensible strokes on most of the holes and became the first Chinese to win any LET (Ladies European Tour) event.
Feng kicked off the stroke play event with a clear plan, keeping her rivals at a distance from the start.
The match involved 54 holes, with a number of competent players in the field. Feng was completely fired up on the course, as she carded a 10-under 206.
She managed to gain a clear lead in the final moments. Although she had to face tough resistance from her competitors at the start of the event, she still piled up good scores to keep ahead.
Diana Luna from Italy came close to snatching the title, as she stunned the spectators with her first-round lead.
The Chinese shared the lead with Luna, but picked up pace as she scored a decent 69 in the second round.
Speaking of her brilliant performance in the inaugural event at China, Feng said she was sure of her ability, as she had practised hard for the tournament.
She said that her plan was to score as high as she could to keep the pressure on the other contenders.
Feng was successful in avoiding making low scores, as the course provided plenty of opportunities to make calculated putts.
She said that there were some holes that could have been even easier for her, but she faltered and failed to gain the maximum advantage.
“I wasn’t really shooting a low score today. I think at one time I was like, three behind, but I wasn’t worried at all because I knew I would have more chances on the back nine and I would catch up and finally I got it,” Feng said.
She added that her match strategy also included keeping a close eye on the score of her team.
“I was really focusing on the team score and I saw the Thailand team was really strong. They played really well today and they were trying to catch up me and my partner,” the Chinese star shared.
