Shanshan Feng maintains upper hand in second round of Dubai Masters

Chinese Shanshan Feng maintained the upper hand in the second round of Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2012, as she shot a 65 to stand firm atop the leaderboard.
The second round of the LET (Ladies European Tour) tournament, being played at the Majlis Course, Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, saw Feng display an even more solid performance on Thursday.
The Chinese star, who grabbed an early lead in the first round thanks to a bogey-free 66, rattled off 8 birdies, but also faltered on some holes. She carded a bogey on the difficult par-3
4th.
Feng is making her debut at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, but shooting a big score in the first round has quickly put her on the hot favourite list.
She started the round on the back nine, which proved beneficial to her. She parred the 10th hole and launched back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th hole.
With favourable conditions that saw good winds sweeping through the course all day, players found it easy to manoeuvre the ball on the greens.
Feng once again whipped up crowd excitement after she posted another two straight birdies on the 16th and 17th hole. On the front nine, she maintained her grip on the
drive and putter, shooting perfect shots on almost all the remaining holes.
Feng drained three birdies on the front nine, but a bogey on the 4th restricted her score to a 65.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Feng said she is feeling confident after maintaining her first position. She attributed her performance to an almost-perfect short game.
“My putting was really good. I think I have learned something from Inbee Park, who is our money queen on the LPGA Tour this season,” said Feng who ranks among key contenders on the LPGA (Ladies
Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Felicity Johnson of England displayed an electrifying performance in the second round, as she posted a 67 to maintain her second position on the leaderboard.
On the other hand, American Lexi Thompson was also seen putting her best forward on Thursday. Thompson, who is defending her title, shot a 68, clinging to the 7th spot.
