Shanshan Feng outplays her European counterparts to lift the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters title
Shanshan Feng added another trophy to her mantelpiece as she won the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. The golf professional from mainland China won the tournament with a convincing five-shot lead.
The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is a part of the Ladies European Tour season. Hence, with the season coming to end, Feng has given herself the confidence that she so desperately needed going into the 2013 season.
The Chinese golfer led the tournament from the first day. She carded a 66 on the first day, 65 on the second, on the third day she carded 67 and on the final day she was three-under-par 69.
Feng made a rare eagle on the third hole of her final round of the tournament.
The Chinese professional golfer displayed a calm and composed game throughout the tournament and easily superseded all the participants of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
Five shots behind the 6th ranked golfer, Feng, was the Dutch professional golfer Dewi Claire Schreefel, who was at 16-under as the tournament came to an end.
The third day of the tournament belonged to the Dutch golfer as she made history at the tournament by shooting a nine-under 63. The round was played to perfection by Schreefel.
There was plenty of resistance from the Dutch player but Feng always came out on top with her solid all round game.
The Welsh golfer Becky Brewerton shared the third place with Caroline Masson. Brewerton displayed a splendid round of golf in the final round to clinch the third position.
The Chinese golfer Feng said in a statement that she enjoyed playing on the fairways of the Majlis course. She added that this is the first time she is playing in Dubai and that it has been a wonderful experience for her.
Feng was not shy of expressing her emotions and the delight of winning the tournament showed on her face.
In a post-tournament conference, she said, “I was just playing my own golf. I said at the start if I shot five under nobody could catch me”.
She continued, "We had a little more wind and it was tougher to play, so three under was not a bad score".
