Shanshan Feng receives $100,000 cheque for her major victory at LPGA Championship 2012
Chinese Shanshan Feng is successfully making her mark on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, as she has made a name for herself by grabbing her first major title at the LPGA Championship 2012.
The victory at the LPGA Championship 2012 has earned her a great reputation in women’s golf, although the Chinese star still has a long way to go before she can match her skills with players like the current world number one Yani Tseng and Suzann Pettersen.
However, she has managed to give her fans and sponsors the impression that she is not resting on her laurels, and is keen to move ahead on the LPGA Tour.
In recognition of her success at the LPGA Championship 2012, Feng’s sponsor, Kolon Sport, recently awarded her a $100,000 cheque — something that reflects the rising LPGA star is sure to gain more credibility in the eyes of sponsors worldwide.
Kolon Sport is a South Korean company, and it recently arranged a gathering in Beijing to award the money to Feng.
Speaking at the gathering, the major winner said that she is more than happy to see how her fans have supported her since she became a professional golfer. She said that the coming days will demand more hard work and patience.
Sharing her thoughts about her victory at the LPGA Championship 2012, Feng said that she gained plenty of confidence after racking up the most prestigious LPGA title, and she hopes to continue her form in the future.
When asked how her major victory for China is going to benefit golf in the country, she said that China is a big region and has great potential for the sport.
The LPGA titan went on to say that people’s interest in golf is bound to increase in China, but it will take some time, as most of the citizens are not familiar with the sport.
Feng has become the first Chinese player to win a major championship, which has helped her eclipse the popularity of most of the current LPGA stars.
Analysts said that the 22-year-old golfer is going places, and it is expected that she will likely ramp up pressure on her nearest rivals in the world rankings.
Feng currently ranks fifth in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and she is ready to further boost her position in the coming tournaments.
