Shanshan Feng says Dubai Masters is "like a major" on LET
Chinese Shanshan Feng has said that Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is “like a major” and clinching her maiden title at the season-ending battle is a great achievement.
Feng took part in the season-ending Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2012 for the first time, but she dominated the leaderboard right from the start to the final moment of the event. The Chinese
star posted an overall 267 to grab a five-stroke victory against nearest rival Dewi Claire Schreefel.
It was a defining moment for Feng who is also the brand ambassador of Omega. However, winning the tournament in an impressive style speaks of her hidden talent and exceptional putting skills.
Speaking to the media at the end of the LET (Ladies European Tour) tournament last Saturday, Feng said that despite her little exposure to the Tour, she has long been aware of how challenging
and important this event is.
“Like I said earlier, this is my first tournament ‑‑ this tournament is like a major on the LET and I've always heard about it, that it's very nice,” said the winner who shot a massive 66
in the first round at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai.
She further said that she worked hard for the event, believing if she managed to pull off a great show this year, it could help her stand out among all the other LET contenders in a short
time.
“Finally I got a chance to play, and I like it, I like the golf course ‑‑ of course, I shot 21‑under, and I haven't really been to the malls yet but I'm going right after the interview”.
Since Feng mostly plays on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, European fans are generally unfamiliar with her talent. However, the fresh victory can help her win over fans
worldwide.
She went on to say during the interview that it has been a long journey, setting off on the LPGA Tour in 2008 and then joining the LET.
“I would say it's been a long story because I went to America when I was 17 and I went to LPGA Q‑School in the same year, so after maybe like half a year,” Feng said.
