Shanshan Feng thrilled about World Ladies Championship 2013
Chinese Shanshan Feng had vowed to do well on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour in the 2012 season, but she is more than thrilled after doing well on the LET (Ladies European Tour) too.
Feng is happy that the coming World Ladies Championship, which she has already won in the current season, is going to offer much bigger prize money next year than its inaugural 2012 edition.
The World Ladies Championship, an LET event, saw Shanshan Feng display a stellar performance, but what has caught the golf fans and players by surprise is a whopping $600,000 boost in its total purse, which has now gone up to $1 million.
Sharing her thoughts about how she thinks the increased prize money will impact the LET tournament in future, Feng said she is happy to see the tournament coming to China again and she will try to repeat her current year’s performance in the 2013 edition.
Feng said that players will now take part in the World Ladies Championship with more enthusiasm as big purse always increases the level of competition and excitement.
The Chinese star did well in all the rounds at the World Ladies Championship, held at Mission Hills Resort, Haikou, Hainan, as she beat her nearest rival Pornanong Phatlum by one stroke.
Feng recently became the first Chinese to win a major LPGA tournament, as she clinched two-stroke victory at LPGA Championship 2012.
Officials are also happy about the increase in prize money of the tournament, as they think they will be able to attract big names and a large number of spectators. The LET has made major strides in the recent past and boosted its image not just in European countries but also in places like the United States, Australia, Japan and China.
“Mission Hills Resort Haikou is the perfect venue to stage an event of this magnitude, with fantastic golf courses, luxury hotels and fabulous entertainment and all of the services you would expect from a first class resort. The players all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I would like to thank Mr Tenniel Chu for making everyone feel so welcome and for his highly valued support of women’s professional golf,” said Alexandra Armas, Ladies European Tour’s Executive Director.
