Shaquille O’ Neal gets mathematical – Subtracts one from the Big 3 of Miami Heat – NBA Update
Shaquille O’Neal has been at the centre of attention ever since he decided to hang up his boots. Recently the Big Shaq, made some catchy remarks about the Miami Heat.
This time though, it wasn’t what he said that caught the attention, rather it was what he chose not to.
True to his outspoken and blunt nature, Shaq labelled LeBron James and Dwyane Wade as the only two real stars in the Miami Heat side, referring to them as the Big 2, rather than using the “Big Three” term that includes Chris Bosh
as the third player.
Shaquille O’Neal is known for being media savvy and he never fails to make the headlines and the retired star is at it again, even before starting his new gig at TNT’s “Inside the NBA”.
The Diesel deliberately left out Chris Bosh when speaking about Miami’s chances next season, remarking that LeBron and Dwyane would be the ones spearheading the Miami side.
“The Miami Heat, they’ve got a lot of great players, the ‘Big Two.’ They will be back.” Shaq said.
People have spoken in whispers about Chris Bosh not being as good as his too esteemed teammates, but the player is still a vital part of the Miami Heat side that reached the NBA Finals last year. Shaquille though seemingly doesn’t
share that view and failed to mention Bosh despite the opportunity to do so.
He went on to defend LeBron James who has faced intense criticism since the Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. LeBron James was supposed to deliver on the biggest stage, but was up staged by teammate Dwyane Wade
in the Finals. Wade in turn was put in shade by the awe inspiring Dirk Nowitzki, who led his side to an NBA World Championship at the second time of trying, bagging the Finals MVP award along the way.
LeBron James did not do himself any favours through his behaviour over the last year and after the Finals, the media and NBA fans really took him to task.
Shaq threw his weight behind “The Chosen One” though and said the player will bounce back,
“LeBron James is taking a lot of criticism, but I know LeBron very well. He hears everything that everyone is saying, so I think he’s going to come back and have an MVP year this year….”
It should be kept in mind here that Shaq has been a teammate of both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. He played alongside King James at the Cleveland Cavaliers and of course won an NBA World Championship with Dwyane Wade at the Miami
Heat. He was effusive in his praise for the his two former colleagues, once again ignoring Bosh,
“Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, you know, they’re great players, they’re probably the greatest backcourt ever assembled.”
