The former Los Angeles Lakers center is in talks to play two exhibition games with Fuerza Regia.....
Shaquille O’Neal retired from the game of basketball last year thus bringing an end to long and prestigious career.
However, according to latest reports, Shaq might be on his way back to a basketball court as he is currently been reported to be in discussions with Sergio Ganem for a possible two exhibition game contract.
Ganem, who is the president of the Mexican outfit Fuerza Regia, is currently heading the discussions in hope of bringing Shaq down the border for two exhibitions in the 2012-2013 campaign of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional.
“Shaq could play one or two games at the 2012-13 Mexican Basketball League with Fuerza Regia,” Ganem said.
The two games in focus are set to take place before the Los Angeles Lakers retire his jersey number at the Staples Center on April 2nd.
If a deal is struck it would be very interesting to see the 40 year old get back in action – something every basketball fan grew accustomed to seeing during his time in Hollywood.
Shaq spent 8 seasons with the Lakers and held double-double averages for all those years. During his time in L.A, O’Neal won three NBA Championships which were capped off with three Final MVP honours.
However, following a largely publicised dispute with fellow Lakers team-mate, O’Neal was dealt over to the Miami Heat. But success quickly followed as he combined with Dwyane Wade to win his fourth NBA title in 2006.
At the end of his career, O’Neal spent time with three other franchises as well with stints at the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and spent his closing season with the Boston Celtics.
During his career, O’Neal managed to win one regular season MVP in his first season with the Lakers. He made 15 All-Star appearances and won the NBA’ scoring title twice in his career.
But a return to basketball actions seems eminent for Shaq, as he looks set to become the second former Lakers players to play in the Mexican league. Dennis Rodman was the only other player to do the honours.
