Shaquille O’Neal signs with the Boston Celtics
Shaquille O’Neal is renowned to be one of the greatest centres ever to play in the NBA. The four-time NBA Championship title winner was extremely indecisive this year, as he did not know what team he wanted to honour with his presence. Various blogs and media outlets speculated the 38-year old veteran wanted to return to the newly formed All-Star team the Miami Heat.
However, the unexpected happened, the aging superstar signed on to the Boston Celtics. He announced on the Celtics official website "I am honoured to be joining the Celtics. I have played against Paul, Ray, Kevin, Rajon, and Jermaine for many years and it will be great to be able to call them my teammates. I cannot wait to get to Boston to get started in pursuit of another championship".
According to the Boston Celtics website it has been quite a busy year for the team’s general Manager Danny Ainge, as they have been trying to round up great players from the free-agency.
"It is not every day that you can add a player of Shaquille's calibre to your team. His past experience speaks for itself and we believe that he is a great fit for our roster", said Danny Ainge.
According to various media outlets, Doc Rivers, Celtics head coach warmly received Shaquille O’Neal and told the press, “We recruited each other”.
O’Neal was first picked by Orlando Magic in 1992 drafting season as the 1st pick overall. Since then the 7”1’ giant has obtained 4 NBA championship rings and has made it to the NBA All-Star team 13 times. Due to his sheer size he has dominated the NBA throughout his career, unlike the usual centres his game at defence is not only remarkable but he is one of the highest scorers in the NBA leading him to become the NBA scoring champion twice, in 1995 and 2000 respectively.
Shaquille O'Neal has reportedly signed onto a contract worth $3 million for over a two-year period.
