Shara Gillow brought the first stage win for Team GreenEdge-AIS
The Australian team, GreenEdge-AIS, achieved its first victory at the third stage of Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012. The youngest cyclist in their squad, Shara Gillow brought the team its much needed win.
One of the best days for the debut team, it not only brought the stage win for Team GreenEdge-AIS but also saw four of it cyclists finish in top five.
Grace Sulzberger of Team Jayco-AIS achieved the second position. Whereas Tiffany Cromwell, Amanda Spratt and Jessie Maclean were the remaining GreenEdge-AIS cyclists, who landed at the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Gillow commented on winning the race, "It was so awesome. Such a good team effort and we got our first win... First win for GreenEdge and to be a part of such an awesome team. The team dynamics are so good".
The 24-year-old was over the moon after the stage win as she became the first rider in the history to open the winning account for Team GreenEdge-AIS.
She stated, "First women's Pro UCI team [in Australia] and the first win. It's a credit to all the girls for all their effort".
The team’s financial supporter, Gerry Ryan, made his first appearance to congratulate the young rider after her remarkable performance.
Melissa Hoskins finished the third stage at the seventh spot, which earned her enough points to lead the stage 3 general classifications. She occupied the first general classification position with 22 points to her credit.
First stage winner, Chloe Hosking is one point behind at the second position, whereas Amanda Spratt dropped down from the second to the third position after the stage 3 classifications.
Hoskins is confident that she will continue her lead in the final stage to ensure the first season victory for her team.
She believes that Team GreenEdge-AIS is completely equipped with all the expert cyclists to claim the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic.
Shara Gillow, Rowena Fry and Peta Mullens were the top three cyclists after the first sprint of stage 3.
Shara Gillow, Tiffany Cromwell and Grace Sulzberger dominated the second sprint of the race.
The stage 3 Sprint Ace Competition was secured by Shara Gillow, Chloe Hosking and Jessie Maclean with 10, 5 and 3 points, respectively.
Team GreenEdge-AIS is leading the stage 3 Teams Classifications with 68 points to its credit. Total Rush/ Hyster is at second with 33, whereas BikeExchange.com.au Dream Team secured the third position with a total number of 23 points.
