Sharad Pawar: Standard of cricket has been impressive in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011
The President of International Cricket Council, Sharad Pawar on Monday commended the thrill generated due to the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 and termed it as the greatest and most dramatic cricket tournament so far.
Pawar also said that the standard of game has been impressive in the mega event.
“The standard of cricket has been impressive,” the ICC president was quoted as saying in an ICC release. “There is no doubt that 50-over cricket has a real attraction and an amazing appeal for players, spectators in the grounds and
the hundreds of millions watching on television around the world.”
Pawar said that the ongoing tournament has seen some outstanding games and it would be impossible for the spectators to forget the excitement generated. He singled out
Bangalore for praise for entertaining the cricket lovers with thrilling games like the sensational tie between
India and England.
“We have surely been treated to a real feast of 50-over cricket with some outstanding games,” said Pawar. “Few who were in Bengaluru will forget the tied match between
India and England or Ireland's record-breaking triumph against
England.”
The tied match between co-hosts India and
England in Bangalore was the most viewed game in the history of cricket World Cups.

With the popularity of Twenty20 cricket, there were a lot of questions being raised about the survival of one-day format of game before the World Cup.
The critics have been predicting that days for the 50-over format were numbered but Pawar said that the turn out in the stadiums and the record breaking television audience have proven the critics wrong and he was quite happy about
it. He expressed hope that the audience for 50-over cricket will continue to grow in future.
