International Cricket Council's (ICC) President, Sharad Pawar, has lashed out on the former Indian batsman, Vinod Kambli, for his shocking implication that a match of the 1996 World Cup was fixed, terming it to be an irresponsible statement.
According to Pawar, Kambli is not such a player as can be believed so easily, moreover, if he had any information in his mind, he must have divulged it 15 years ago.
The president is of the view that he can believe if the great players like Sachin Tendulkar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 speak anything about this issue.
Talking to the media today, Pawar said, “I honestly feel that his allegations are irresponsible statements. I would rather believe in what Sourav Ganguly, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajit-Laxman-Wadekar-c42461 say.”
He further told, “If he was an honest and a committed cricketer he should have spoken about it then. But he kept quiet, so I hold him irresponsible.”
Kambli spread a shock wave in the cricket world a few days back by disclosing that the semi-final game of ICC World Cup 1996 between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 to intervene
and probe into the matter so that corrupt elements could be unearthed.
Kambli’s allegations were based on the fact that the Men in Blue, under the captaincy of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808. In Kambli’s view, his fellow batsmen did it deliberately
as they had been mandated to lose the game. Moreover, he claimed that his team elected to bowl first despite a solid dressing room decision of batting after winning the toss.
The ex-cricketer has opened a Pandora's box by making this statement, for which he is taking fire from several quarters. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strongly condemned Kambli and required him to prove his allegations with solid and
valid evidences. However, he is still unable to bring any reliable proof. This is the reason why Pawar, on behalf of the ICC, has also nullified his statement.
