President of the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 might have been fixed, terming Kambli’s statement as "irresponsible".
The ICC's incumbent president, who himself hails from India, said that Kambli’s statement is quite irresponsible and he would rather believe in what veteran Indian players like Master Blaster http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 would
say.
"I honestly feel that his allegations are irresponsible statements," said Pawar while talking to the media reporters after attending Nationalist Congress Party's meeting in Lucknow. "I would rather believe in what Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar or Ajit
Wadekar say," he added further.
The former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India said that he was a very good cricketer of his time and could have been among cricket greats had he focused only on cricket. The former BCCI chief said that consistency always remained a problem
with Kambli during his playing days.
Pawar further added that if the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Maharashtra-c811 batsman was an honest and committed cricketer then he should have informed the concerned authorities about the wrongdoings soon after the esteemed World Cup tournament in 1996.
"If he was an honest and a committed cricketer he should have spoken about it then. But he kept quiet, so I hold him irresponsible," said the former BCCI chief.
Few days back, Kambli had raised suspicion on the India-Sri Lanka semi-final in the 1996 World Cup saying that there was “something amiss” during the high profile game and played a key in bringing his international career to an end.
What bothers the former Maharashtra cricketer the most is the then India captain, Azharuddin’s decision to field first.
"I will never forget the 1996 match because my career ended after this and I was dropped from the team. I was stunned by India's decision to field first," Kambli had said last week during a TV programme.
Pawar’s comments have come on the same day when the BCCI vice president, Rajiv Shukla refused to probe into Kambli’s allegations despite a call of investigation from Sports Minister Ajay Maken.
