Sharapova lost????

I know I'm a few days late but that's just SHOCKING! I thought she was supposed to be all mentally tough? Does this call her mental toughness into question?

I've never believed the mental toughness hype or anything else from Sharapova's extraordinary PR team. She has a strong game when the conditions and circumstances suit her. But even a slight discomfort can send her game south.

In this recent loss the conditions did not suit her and she failed to make adjustments. Sharapova is a terrible wind player. When the wind pulls her driving power shots long or wide she does not have a plan B. She's all hit and not much thought.

The marathon matches that have led some to believe she is mentally tough have been against very low ranked or mentally weak players: Mashona Washington, Camille Pin, Medina Garrigues, and Patty Schnyder. To this day Sharapova still says her best match was against Mashona Washington.

The bottom line about Sharapova is when she is on, her game is tough for most players but don't expect her to mentally fight her way through a close match against a player she can't simply overpower or conditions that are not in her favor. Case in point: Alla Kudryavtseva at Wimbledon on a breezy day.

people still have their off days you know... even if they are pro

just because she lost doesn't mean she is horrible
