Share dealing, what's the meaning of share price, bid and ask.?

If going to sell would you get the share price, the bid or the ask price.

  1. bid is the last request to buy.  ask is the last request to sell.


  2. depends on how u sell shares. i did my selling of shares on the phone and got the price that was on the market at the time. the price was updated every minute with the company i dealt with and had i sold them a couple hours later i would have got 10 pence less per share as a colleague sold hers after me. i laughed.

  3. The share price is the actual value of the share. The bid price is the price to sell a share, and the ask is the price to buy the share. The bid/ask change depending on the underlying share value.

    The difference between bid/ask is called the spread. Companies buying and selling equities make their money based on the spread.

    Eg, a share worth 100p will have spread of 97-103.
