In 2006 Italy top professional teams were involved in football betting. The scandal was uncovered by Italian polices. Jeventus the champions of series A at that time was accused of rigging games by selecting favorable referees. The problem was long disputed because of the largely different brutality of punishment between Jeventus and other involved teams, in which Jeventus was finally punished by deduction of 9 points including 31 million $ fine with club banned in UEFA champion league 2007
