Question:

Share the road or follow the rules?

I'm tired of the bicyclists thinking they are better than the drivers out there when some of us can't get all our kids on a bike (instead of a gas guzzler) and ride with them. There is so much Share the Road stuff in my city which I understand and I am always nice to bikers but does anyone else think they should follow road rules? It seems to me they pick between the rules of the road and pedestrian rules and it's a little hard to follow. Which I think is why there are so many accidents; bikes going right up next to cars when they should be behind them, driving through red lights and stop signs because it's clear enough, and driving between rows of traffic. I think more of this could be avoided if there were hard and fast rules and consequences (ie tickets) for them. Any opinions?

  1. Yep. You're right.  Most of them seem to think they can do as they please.

  2. I pretty much agree with you. I do not seem to let it bother me the way you do;

  3. How do you KNOW what they are thinking?  I think your problems starts with your presumptions.

    Actually, in most states, bikes (including motorcycles) are allowed to ride between cars... not that it's very smart.

    Driving through red lights in ANY vehicle, including a bike, is illegal and dangerous.

    If it makes you feel better, I know a cyclist who got a ticket yesterday for this.

    But don't take it out on them by acting aggressive toward them.  You will be in a buttload of trouble if you do.

    hope this helps

  4. Yes I agree with you 100 percent..............

    They should not only follow the rules of the road but pay to have the bike inspected, licensed, insured and taxed as well.

    If you use the road you need to pay..........

  5. Bike riders, by law, must follow the same rules as licensed drivers, If an officer sees a rider cross a red light, they will be cited, the same as a driver would.

  6. They seem to do as they d**n well please.
