it's my maths project on 'Shares and Dividends.' i am not able to write the definations of INVESTMENT and SALES PROCEED.Pls help me out.thanx.

  1. The word Investment can have a number of different meanings,

    but given the context of your question I would go with this one:

    The amount of money paid to purchase an asset.

    (for example a piece of property or some shares).

    The Sales Proceeds would be the other side of the coin, so to speak:

    The amount of money received upon the sale of an asset.

    For example:

    I buy 100 shares of XYZ stock for $500 ($5/share).

    Later I sell them for $520 ($5.20/share).

    My "Investment" was $500.

    I sold my shares and received "Proceeds" of $520.

    Tossing in one more term, the "Profit" on the deal was $20.

    You could also use the term Investment to describe

    the action, regardless of the amount.  For example,

    "I used to have an "investment" in XYZ company,

    but I sold it."
