Sharestan in the limelight for the Coolmore Stud China IRE.Friendship Silver Stakes at Curragh
The Coolmore Stud China IRE.Friendship Silver Stakes (Listed Race) will be hosted by Curragh over a mile and two furlongs on Sunday, 10th June. The €27,300 prize money has attracted a line-up of eight three-year and older runners. There are only
two candidates on the line-up who will race their seasonal debuts today.
The entries are fairly experienced at Curragh but none have been able to post wins from there, however, an entry who is comparatively successful there is Sharestan, Shamardal’s four-year-old bay colt out of mare, Sharesha.
He has raced five times through the two seasons, three of which fall into the 2012 calendar. Two of his outings during the current season are at Curragh.
His seasonal debut was in the www.thetote.com Irish Lincolnshire (Premier Handicap) on 25th March at Curragh over a mile. The 3/1 favourite was paired up with Johnny Murtagh for the race and the two led the track by 2 ¾ lengths.
Finishing the closest to the winner was Ansaab while taking up the third slot was Sikara.
His second outing of the season was in the Heritage Stakes (Listed Race) at Leopardstown over a mile. He scored second at a mere head’s difference from the 9/10 favourite winner of the race, Famous Name. Once again Sharestan was riding with Johnny Murtagh.
Coming at terms with the third position was Northgate.
Taking a dive down from the first position that he enjoyed in the seasonal debut, Sharestan finished third in the Group 3 High Chaparral European Breeders Fund Mooresbridge Stakes on 7th May at Curragh over a mile and two furlongs.
The race was won by Windsor Palace who led the 2/5 favourite runner up of the race, St Nicholas Abbey, by a length. Sharestan settled right behind the runner up of the race.
The Irish colt will race his fourth outing of the season today and a third attempt at Curragh. Winning there once highlights his potential of conquering a race there once more. He will need to look out for Brog Deas who has struck a hat trick just recently
and is in form to upset the chances of Sharestan today.
