Question:

Sharing a SMALL SMALL SMALL ROOM?

Okay, So I am moving into an apartment with some other guys. They want me and another guy to share a 126 sq. foot room. How can we make this work and still feel comfortable? Should I just get a couch pull-out bed and take over the living room for sleeping?

  1. My math is the pits. I can't visualize a 126 square foot space. If you gave dimensions such as 8' by 10', I could do a little better.

What a dilemma! If you like your privacy and have a lot of "stuff," sharing a small room may not be the best choice. But if you use a sleeper sofa in the living room, on the other hand, you may not be able to rest or sleep when you want to. The other roomies may be watching tv or entertaining guests.

    Mmmm - decisions, decsions...

For the small room, would bunk beds be an option? Or, you could possibly place twin beds at right angles to each other on two walls. If you have the kind with storage underneath (captain's bed, I think they're called), this may eliminate the need for dressers and chests of drawers. If you have just plain ol' ordinary beds, under the bed storage boxes are a must for small spaces. Also, there are space-saver products for closets, too. Hangers that hold multiple garments, over the door type of hooks, storage bins, etc.

Wall-mounted shelves and lamps would free up floor space. You could even have a shelf by the bed for a nightstand, and this would save space as well. A shelf installed over a door or window frame could hold framed photos, odds and ends, etc. .

Ikea has some good ideas for compact living, and they sell multi-use furniture. You might visit their website just to get some options and ideas.

Also, there's a website that sells little things for little spaces, believe it or not! It is www.tinyliving.com

Check it out for storage ideas and gadgets that are scaled down for small living spaces.

    Good luck!

  2. is it not big enough for two single beds? if not you can sleep in the living room. or you might not be that comfortable.

  3. Do not move to the living room.  Claim your space - small though it may be.

Get yourself a loft twin bed - craigslist.com has many where I live.  Under it you can have seating/music space, a desk or storage - based on your needs.

Having a loft bed will also ensure that your bed is your space - and it will provide a personal escape zone.

  4. bunk beds!!!!...unless one of you has a girl over. or get those bunk beds you can take apart. or get two twin beds (i know a twin, oh well) and place one on one wall and then the other on the opposite wall and place a table to connect them at the corner.

This will give you a idea of what i mean: http://www.pbteen.com/products/p2270/ind...

    good luck!
