Question:

Sharing a virtual drive? ?

I'm having a problem setting up a drive to be shared.

Instead of creating a partition on my hard drive, i used the SUBST command and assigned a folder on my computer a drive name.

Now the drive does show up in My Computer, i labeled it the 'J' Drive.

The one problem im having is that if i right click and hit "share", the button to enable sharing is grayed out, and all it says is "advanced settings". I can share the folder Inside the J drive (and each new folder in the J drive i make i have to set for sharing), but how can i make it so that i can share that whole virtual J drive in a way that when computers connect they will see the J drive show up. Right now if i look at that computer from another PC on my network i can see the folder i SUBST, but not the actual virtual J drive.

This is on Windows Vista if that helps.

Thanks for any answers ahead of time!

  1. try sharing ,by using a FASTER dsl connections

  2. the speed of DSL has nothing to do with sharing.  If you want it to be a true drive partition the hard drive.

  3. You can share the original folder, you can't share its SUBSTituted letter.
