Sharing the cost of decorating with landlord?

I am about to decorate my flat and I'm lucky my landlord has agreed on the colour scheme. I'd like to know if I could ask him to share the cost of the paint and equipment (a couple of rooms need special treatment for dampness) or if he could refuse to help towards it.

You can ask but you've done well getting an agreement on colour. Anything else is a bonus. If you're having concerns about dampness then that should be covered by the owners. Best check for details on financial considerations with your local rental authority. That dampness seems like a property maintenance issue.

If he is a reasonable man he should be more than happy to share the cost of the paint as well as the damp repair. The damp has to be fixed it is against the law for him to let that go on.
