Sharjah to host first Test after nine years in November - Cricket News Update
Sharjah will host its first Test in nine years, when Pakistan will play a Test match against Sri Lanka, in November this year.
The Pakistan Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket, reached an agreement today, to play the last Test of the three-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033.
Dilawar Mani, the chief of the Emirates Cricket Board, on Saturday confirmed that PCB and SLC have agreed to play a Test match at Sharjah.
"We've finally confirmed that Pakistan will play a Test in Sharjah," Dilawar told a leading daily. "We offered Sharjah at the very beginning - apart from Dubai and Abu Dhabi - but it was necessary for both sides to agree to
play in Sharjah. We're now delighted to know that it has happened," he added further.
The venue has hosted more One Day Internationals than any other ground in UAE, but has not had any Test match played over here since October 2002. The last Test match played at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium was between
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and Pakistan from 19 to 22 October 2002.
The construction International standard stadiums in Dubai and Abu Dhabi had made it quite unlikely that big matches would return to Sharjah, the venue famous for its tri-nation series, the Sharjah Cup.
The rest of the two matches of the neutral venue Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played at are the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, both almost eight years younger
to the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium when it comes to hosting a Test match.
Sharjah hosted its debut Test in January 2002, between Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in UAE due to
security concerns.
The other two venues for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Test series which hosted their debut Tests during the Pakistan-South Africa series in November 2010.
Besides the three-match Test series, Pakistan will play five One Day Internationals and a one-off T20 International against Sri Lanka starting on October 18 in UAE.
