how can i get rid of it?

I have form of Selachophobia (Fear of sharks) If I touch a

picture of a shark's head (especially with its mouth open) it can still

bite my fingers off.

The shark phobia is anything shark, turning the page in National Geographic to be faced with a shark used to result in tossing, throwing the magazine and running and screaming. Watching TV had the same results. I once slapped myself in the face to cover my eyes when forced to view Jaws in English class and never heard the end of it. I also have a hard time swimming in any body of water I can’t see the bottom. Or even worse to dive in the deep end of the pool and look up from the bottom, huge uncontrollable panic attack. . Amazingly the sharks I have seen in person at the aquarium don’t give me this tho.

i avoid, lakes, and the beach...yeah right!

  2. i agree that you may need to consult a psychiatrist for therapy.

this is something to do with your mind, everyone have phobia, so don't worry

  3. Most shark attacks happen in about 4 feet of water, 6 feet from the beach. Very few attacks are fatal.

  4. I think the best idea would be to seek therapy with a psychiatrist, and to use a combination of drug and psychoanalytic practices.  Honestly- phobias are not an easy thing to get over, and most people know their fear isn't rational, they just can't help it.  This is why, while self-help methods may help a little, they can't really solve the problem, just hide it.  With professional help you have a good chance of beating the phobia, or at least severely restrainig it.  Good Luck.
