Sharks announce squad for Super Rugby opener against Cheetahs
At Super Rugby, Sharks will be opening their campaign fronting Cheetahs, with 13 Springboks heroes in their starting lineup.
Flanker Jacques Botes and fullback Louis Ludik are the only ones in the first 15 who aren’t from Springboks. Tendai Mtawarira, Adi Jacobs and Keegan Daniel are three other who aren’t from the Green and the Gold, but will be sitting on bench in the upcoming
fixture.
Stefan Terblanche will be joined by Meyer Bosman in the center. Bosman is making his debut for Sharks in Super Rugby. The current combination is almost the same as last year’s winning pair. Sharks will be looking forward for this pair to work out good and
retain the Currie Cup.
Sharks have been boosted with this strong lineup and looking very sharp and strong with few dangerous names on board. Sharks’ back row compromises of Lacques Botes, Willem Alberts and Ryan Kankowski. All three, backline experts combined to create a deadlock
and a trio which has ability, skill and power.
Jannie du Plessis gets an approval to play in starting line prior to Mtawarira match, after being benched throughout the last season. Plessis will be playing alongside Springbok captain John Smit in the front row. He has been joined by his brother Bismarck
Plessis.
It will be Smit’s first match since he last played in Tri Nations last year. Smit has missed Currie Cup and South Africa’s autumn tour since his neck injury and is doubted to be in form. JP Pietersen, who has played all the last year’s tournament turned
out to be unlucky after picking a back injury. Pietersen will be missing the opening round of the Super Rugby campaign.
Sharks will be playing against Cheetahs at Kings Park on Saturday 19th February under the supervision of Craig Joubert the referee.
