Sharks looking to break losing streak by beating Crusaders on All Blacks soil - Super Rugby News
The South African Super Rugby conference, Sharks, is determined to win its first match against the Crusaders in New Zealand.
The Sharks have never won any Super Rugby matches against the Crusaders in the entire history of Super Rugby. The South African derby is now scheduled to take on the Crusaders in the second quarter-final of Super Rugby championship today, June 25, in Nelson.
The Sharks have won just one play-off match on the foreign soil in the entire history of Super Rugby as they defeated the Australian team Reds in a semi-final from 1996. The Durban based derby has participated in all stalls of Super Rugby championship so
far and were able to top the tables for the first time in 1997 and qualified for the final of the competition but lost the game to the home team Bulls.
The Sharks overall record against the Crusades is also not very encouraging. Both the teams have met 17 times in Super Rugby and the Crusaders have clinched 13 victories. Sharks have won just three matches against the Crusaders and one of the matches ended
in a draw.
Talking to the reporters, the Sharks coach, John Plumtree said that his team is in good touch after a nail biting win over the Bulls last week. Plumtree stated that, “The guys are comfortable again to be in this underdog situation in that the pressure is
all on the home team. Like last week against the Bulls the recipe is the same – if you are going to shock a home side you have to start well and try to sustain it.”
He further said that his side is there in New Zealand to make a history, “We have our own expectations, we’re in finals rugby and we want to be able to create history. We have never beaten the Crusaders in New Zealand and we want to do that. You have to
get over hurdles to be champions – we’ve spoken a lot about that ...”
The Sharks will face the Crusaders in Nelson on June 25, in the second quarter final of ongoing Super Rugby.
