i'll be in southern mexico(yucatan pen.) in a few weeks and would love to do some snorkeling.

i'm pretty much terrified of sharks, and was wondering if there are any in the area this time of year?

i know there are whale sharks during the spring/summer, but it's winter now so they're most likely gone.

  1. 1. Whale Sharks only eat plankton..in fact their mouths are designed to not allow anything to large (like humans) to enter.

    2. Asking if there are going to be sharks near snorkeling areas is like asking if there are going to be people asking stupid questions on Yahoo Answers...short answer...YES.

Here is how it works.....People love looking at pretty, colorful fish...so they snorkel near the reefs where they live. Now, Sharks love EATING the very same pretty, colorful fish...so they generally swim near the reefs where they live.

Remember...In Shark Language "Reef" is spelled "Buffet"

  2. Of course there are sharks in the area. However your chances of having an encounter with one are practically zero. The Whale Sharks are harmless to humans since they eat very small stuff. Enjoy your snorkeling and don't worry about sharks.

  3. THERE IS ALWAYS SHARKS AS THATS WHERE THEY LIVE....BUT YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF WINNING THE LOTTERY THAN BEING BITTEN BY A SHARK...DONT WORRY JUST GO AND HAVE FUN

  4. If you go snorkeling with a group they will not bring you to a place where there are sharks.  I sure there are sharks almost everywhere.

  5. The "WHALE SHARK". These huge sea creatures are found off the coast of Holbox Island Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo near Cancún. (This is a much more exciting experience than swimming with Dophins in a closed pen as offered elsewhere in the area).between june to september, you get this info off the net

    have a nice time
