I am going to florida in 2 weeks. I thought I might swim in the ocean or something like that. Maybe even catch some waves :-). I have never swam in the ocean before so this is my first time. I am SUPER afraid of sharks and stuff like that!!! But I still want to swim & stuff because I don't want to mis-out on it. What should I do?!?!

  1. I'm sure you'll be safe if the place you want to go to has a lifeguard and all of that stuff. Either way, you don't need to be afraid of sharks. It's 10 times more likely for a dog to attack a human than for a shark to attack a human. It's extremely rare.

  2. Most beaches with a shark problem are well indicated with large warning signs.  If in doubt ask the life guard, beach master, or the locals.

All of Florida has sharks off the coast, so just inquire before you go swimming, and don't go way out too far.

  3. u should not be scared. I know alot about sharks. don't where silver things in the water because it attracts sharks like it is fish scales. If you see a shark you shouldn't panic. If a shark is by you don't move your feet hard (like panicing.) If you see a shark by someone warn them quickly. Anyways just don't be scared. Bye

  4. where are you going in florida

i used to live in Florida 2miles from the ocean and have never seen a shark within 50 yards of our beach.

i used fish for them and had to go out about a mile cause there aren't too many near beaches

    try these tips

    1. don't wear anything shiny even a watch if you go somewhere with sharks nearby

    2. don't swim in or close to inlets we have a big lemon shark population.

    3. don't swim while bleeding!!

    4. swim with a buddy and don't go out to far.

    5. don't splash near a shark.

    6. last but definitely not least don't provoke it!!

the only shark i have ever had to worry about is the tiger sharks and bull sharks, great whites stay deeper than beaches allow.

otherwise have a great time and dont worry to much about sharks.

  5. Pretty much just swim with a group of people, even if it's just you and a friend, and dont try to swim out as far as you can away from shore (thats just asking for trouble) and dont swim at night.

Other than that dont worry about it and just go out there and have fun.
