Question:

Sharks, tenerife?

Hi, everyone i need really quick answers because im leaving for the airport in about um 2 hours for tenerife with some friends. Anyway are there many types of shark in tenerife? im not worried just curious, i've heard there are angel sharks, lemon sharks and rarely hammerhead sharks? is this true and do they have shark nets? ty for the info

No shark nets, yes there are sharks in any ocean, but I've dived there lots and have never seen more than a big eagle ray or small sting rays.  Sure there will be hammerheads in the really deep water (40m-100m), Angel Sharks in shallower water but they are small and harmless and quite rare anyway.  Like most fish they are scared when a big human comes past.  Especially several hundred humans all at once!  My advice, just relax.  If your scuba diving and you see a shark, it will be an amazing and very rare experience.  If you are swimming, well there is probably a far greater chance of seeing a dolphin and the chance of that is incredibly small.  Remember most sharks eat fish anyway, so would see you as nothing more than a big scary clumsy thing in the water that probably should be on the beach!!!  Enjoy tenerife, its great.
