Sharmila Nicollet could miss the cut at the Ladies' Irish Open
Sharmila Nicollet, the Indian golf player, is very close to missing the cut in the ongoing Ladies' Irish Open.
The second round is being played and the cut is project at par +4. This is a reasonable range that allows the top talent to play in the final rounds.
Given Nicollet’s recent performance, it is very much possible that she might miss the cut at the Killeen Castle. Her last tournament was the Evian Masters presented by Societe Generale.
She played a very below average game and finished the event in the 110th position. Nicollet finished the first round of the Ladies' Irish Open with a score of 77.
She started the round with a par on the first hole. On the next hole, she shot a bogey. This performance was repeated on the fourth and fifth holes as well.
She finished the front fine with a birdie on the seventh hole. This was pretty unimpressive and many observers had already placed her at the bottom of the leaderboard.
The back nine proved these observers right. She started the back nine with a bogey on the 10th hole. This was followed by another bogey on the 12th hole.
She did improve her game slightly and managed a birdie on the 14th hole. The next hole saw another bogey that was followed by a double bogey on the 16th hole.
At this point, everyone had given up on Sharmila Nicollet. She, however, had not and managed a birdie on the 18th hole to complete the round in style.
The cut will be announced at the end of the second round. Many experts predict that she will most probably miss it because of her poor performance in the first round. Even if she plays an excellent game in the second round, she will not be able to overcome
the deficit of the first round.
She will not be the only well known player to miss the cut. England’s Rebecca Hudson and South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace are also there on the list. It remains to be seen whether these top rated players will play the final rounds or not.
