Sharmila Nicollet is confident to make successful rookie year at LET
Sharmila Nicollet, the Asian golfer, recently finished the Ladies European Tour Qualifying Stage at the 30th position and is ready to enter and record some massive victories in Europe.
She amazed her peers by scoring a six-foot birdie at the La Manga South Course in Spain. She is also honoured to be the second youngest Indian golf player to be selected for the LET.
In the past, it was Smiriti Mehra who earned the LET tour card. Now she has become India's second most beautiful player to rock the world by playing at the Ladies European Tour.
Nicollet shared, "It's difficult to describe the feeling in words. I felt overwhelmed after holing the last pressure-putt. Six players were vying for two places in the play-off”.
"One (Laura Cabamillas) scored a birdie on the first and got one card leaving the other five to fight for one spot. I am happy that I did not succumb to the pressure and got the final spot," she said.
Indians dream to qualify for the world's most competitive and leading tour organiser. Being part of a full-year season, at just 20 years of age, is not an easy task.
However, she successfully achieved it and set an example for the youngsters from India to follow her.
"It was my most important goal for 2012. But I am not content with it and now I want to score my maiden win on the European Tour this year,” Nicollet added.
To play at the LET is the desired goal and she not only wanted to be on the field, but she also planned her rookie year to be the best of her life.
Goals are easy to set but achieving them needs extra effort and plenty of practise.
Now she has to face the top leading golfers in the coming season, who are ready to defeat others by displaying unbeatable performances.
Nicollet can take help from her past achievements, like she won the title of the All-India Ladies Amateur Championship in 2008, when she was only 17.
Her amazing career opened the doors to become a professional in 2009, at 18. Now she will be joining the ladies squad in the upcoming tournaments of LET and will definitely be facing a tough competition from the world leaders.
