Sharmila Nicollet misses cut in Prague, still positive for the future?
Sharmila Nicollet, the rising star of Indian women golf, missed the cut at Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters.
This was a major disappointment for Sharmila Nicollet, who was hoping to make it big on the international circuit.
The Indian amateur-turned-pro has come a long way since 2009, when she first decided to take the game seriously and turn professional.
Her performance at Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters was not what the fans expected from a star that has become the new face of Indian women golf. They hoped that she would make the cut this time after her lacklustre performance in Swiss Open, earlier this
year.
Nicollet is playing her rookie year at Ladies European Tour. This miss at Prague will have a significant impact on her rankings in both the LET circuit and international professional golf rankings.
Sharmila Nicollet ended the first round with a score of 74. She shot four bogeys throughout the round.
The second round was rather unkind to Nicollet. She seemed under pressure and scored 77, which included four bogeys as well.
This performance was a repeat of the Swiss Open, where Sharmila Nicollet also missed the cut. Her score in the first round was 81 with three bogeys and three double bogeys. The second round went slightly better, with her scoring 75. This included two birdies
and five bogeys.
The tournament went fairly well for many participants. The final moments were tense with the top golfer vying for the top positions. The tournament was host to top female golfers from around the world.
The first two rounds were as usual as any golf tournament. They decided the playing order and paved the way for the third and decisive round. It was obvious that the top players would compete fiercely for the prize money.
The last round was the most entertaining. Top golfers including Melissa Reid from England, Diana Luna and Stefania Croce from Italy, Rachel Bailey from Australia and Rebecca Hudson from England were playing against each other.
The back nine saw Melissa Reid and Diana Luna going head to head for the top position. The 16th hole decided the game.
At this point, Reid gained an advantage over Luna and clinched her victory with a narrow one-stroke margin.
The win was especially important for Melissa Reid who was playing her first game after suffering a personal tragedy. Her mother passed away after a tragic car accident.  This was the fourth LET cup for Melissa Reid.
All is, however, not lost for Sharmila Nicollet. The tournament gave her valuable experience that she lacks to become a major player on LET circuit. Many golf commentators are hopeful about her making the cut in the upcoming events.
