Sharmila Nicollet proves her worth once again
Indian Sharmila Nicollet is one of the few stars on the LET (Ladies European Tour) who have proved that they are hard to subdue, no matter how tough an event is.
Sharmila recently proved her mettle once again after she displayed a stunning performance at the Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013, winning an LET membership for the 2013 season.
The Indian star finished tied for the 17th position at the five-round tournament, keeping most of her rivals at a distance.
It was a defining moment for Sharmila because the roster of the qualifying tournament was packed with big names, and finishing inside the top 30 was not easy. Still, the young gun battled
her way through the field and made a name for herself this year too.
Last year, Sharmila was one the only player from India to win an LET membership.
Her performance was balanced in all five rounds, but the opening day saw her in best shape. Sharmila shot a solid 68 to place herself inside the top 20. She started the round with an aim to
improve her position, parring the first four holes in a row on the front nine.
She reeled off back-to-back birdies on the 5th and 6th hole. On the back nine, the Indian golfer impressed the Moroccan spectators once again after she launched two straight
birdies on the 17th and 18th hole.
Although the 2012 was her rookie season, her putting and swing were strong enough to keep her in the limelight in most of the tournaments during the year.
She missed cut in several tournaments, which was expected, but the Lalla Meryem Cup 2012 saw her do her best on the course. She shot an overall 288 to finish tied for the 37th position
on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media about her stellar performance in the LET finale, Sharmila said that she did not think that she would be able to give experienced rivals such a tough time.
She said that she is happy and her next biggest goal is to build her professional profile. “I’m just overwhelmed right now with excitement. Last year, I qualified and this year being the only
Indian,” said the young Indian who also has craze for music, photograph and chess.
Speaking of the level of competition in Morocco, Sharmila said that it was quite tough because most of the players were professional and had vast experience. She said that this is why most
of the Indians failed to earn their LET membership.
“I’m quite upset that there are not many other Indians that qualified, I wanted a whole group to be in, but I’m super-happy that I managed to get in”.
