Sharmila Nicollet thrilled to play on home soil

Indian Sharmila Nicollet is more than happy to play on home soil once again, as the star golfer has said that she is firm to do her best at the Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012.
Nicollet is one of the strongest Indian contenders at the three-round Ladies European Tour (LET) tournament, set to be staged from November 30, at DLF Golf & Country Club.
The Indian golfer shared her thoughts while talking to the media on Thursday, at New Delhi, India, saying she has been waiting to take part in the prestigious event, as it is more about a
national pride for her than just persuing her professional career.
Nicollet added that she is fully fit to take on rivals, but the factor likely to give her an edge over rivals is a home crowd and home soil advantage.
“It means a lot to me and my sponsors because it’s on my home ground and is one of the biggest tournaments in India,” said the young gun who displayed a decent performance in the last edition
of the tournament that saw her finish tied for the 22nd position.
Nicollet went on to say that winning in India will be a big surprise to her fans in India and around the world, but it will be an uphill task to crush big names.
“To win it would be a dream! Familiarity to the weather and Indian greens will also be an advantage”.
The field of the prestigious tournament is packed with battle-hardened LET contenders. Swedish Caroline Hedwall, who is the defending champion, is being considered a hot favourite for the
2012 edition as well.
Although Nicollet’s performance has not been so good in the 2012 LET season, her strong finish at the 2011 Indian Open is sure to keep her in high spirits.
The DLF Golf & Country Club, the Indian prodigy said, is her favourite course and she has already mapped out a plan for both short and long game.
But she was keen to point out that long game will matter more this week, as the weather conditions and fairways are good enough for this.
“My long driving will be suited to the DLF course. Considering the event being on home ground with home crowd and my past results in DLF”.
