CAIRO, Egypt - Sharon Stone believes the Sept. 11 attacks should not have been used as a pretext for the United States to launch wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to her comments published Monday in a pan-Arab newspaper.

In her interview with Al Hayat, the actress also bemoaned what she called Americans' decision to ignore the deaths of so many Iraqis.

"I feel at great pain when the spotlight is on the death of 4,000 American soldiers, while 600,000 Iraqi deaths are ignored," she said. "War is not a movie, it is a tragedy of dead bodies, victims, the disabled, orphans, widows and the displaced."

Stone spoke in English and her comments were translated and published in Arabic. An English transcript of the interview was not available.

Al Hayat published excerpts of the interview from December, when Stone attended the fourth Dubai International Film Festival in the United Arab Emirates. The paper's sister publication, Leha, is to publish the entire interview Wednesday.

  6. Yes we should not have got into Iraq, but we should have gone all out in Afghanistan.  There are a lot of Jane Fondas in the entertainment industry.

  7. She is welcome to her opinion but using a number, 600K, that has been repeatedly shown to be a false number removes any confidence I would have in her opinion.  War is not a movie so actors and aging rockers need to stop doing promos and trying attach their star to the anti-war effort because it only degrades its value.

On a side note: anyone who gets the opportunity to go to Dubai should go, it is a wonderful place to visit and great food.

  8. When Stone has a top security clearance and doesnt represent the actors labor union, and she has attended West Point, she may have an trickle of credibility.

She's just an old actress trying to score points with the Democrats in Hollywood.

  9. I agree with her 100%.  In the eyes of Jesus, each life is equally valuable.
