Sharp AR161 Copier Printer Problem

Question

My copier works fine but the printer will not function. The LCD display which would normally display 'ready' or 'menu' is totally black, ie all LCD segments are lit and the orange and green leds at the side of the input cable are permanently flashing. There are no documents queing to be printed and I have rebooted both the printer and computer.
Is there an engineer reset code or does it sound terminal.
Any assistance would be a great help.
