Sharp Projector Input Problem?

I have an older Sharp XG-E850U LCD Projector and a brand new laptop with Vista. Basically I can't the projector to work with my laptop. It works fine with the VIDEO input that I have hooked up to my cable, but when I connect the laptop through the VGA port, I get no detection what so ever. I have tried to mess with the screen resolution and everything and I get nothing. Is it possible that the VGA port on the Projector is broke? Any help would be awesome.

ok, because of the Projector is to old the resolution need to be change to 640x480 60  1st go to display setting and them go to advances setting and from there shoul see a icon saing list all models click on it and them look for the resolution that i have said early and ready your projector should work now also make shore that your projector is analog not in dijital
