Sharp and Team Garmin join hands to introduce Team Garmin-Sharp at the Tour de France
Team Garmin-Barracuda will now be known as Team Garmin-Sharp for the remaining part of the season.
The news was revealed by the current owner of the team, Slipstream Sports earlier this week.
It was released in the team’s press release, “Barracuda Networks will continue as an important co-title sponsor, and team materials and the website will refer to the team as Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda”.
The American team is having a good season and has proved its strength during numerous races in the first half of the 2012 season.
It currently holds the fourth overall spot after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with 640 UCI points to its credit.
Tom Boonen (366 points), Niki Terpstra (90 points), Levi Leipheimer (75 points), Tony Martin (57 points) and Dario Cataldo made the highest contributions in helping the side with the fourth overall spot.
Team Sky is holding the top spot with 803 UCI points, Team Katusha (716 points) and Team Liquigas-Cannondale (657 UCI points) at the second and the third positions respectively.

Team Garmin was founded back in 2003 and initially went by the name Team 5280/Subaru.
It went on under the same name for one year and was known as Team TIAA-CREF through 2004-06 seasons.
The team rode with various other sponsors including Team Slipstream Powered by Chipotle (2007-08), Team Garmin-Chipotle Presented by H3O (2008) and Team Garmin-Slipstream (2009).
It rode under the name Garmin-Transitions (2010), Team Garmin-Cervelo (2011) and Team Garmin-Barracuda during the first half of the 2012 season.
The new sponsor Sharp will take effect right from the start of the Tour de France 2012 and the side will now be named as Team Garmin-Sharp.
