The maverick player has been a massive success at Goodison Park since his arrival in January. He has taken the Premier League defences by the storm, scoring 11 goals in his 16 appearances for Everton so far.
And Sharp, who himself netted 159 goals during his 11 year stint with the Merseyside outfit, was quick on heaping praise on the in-form striker. The Scott revealed that he first saw Jelavic in Everton’s league match against Tottenham Hotspur in March, in
which he scored his first league goal to help his side secure a 1-0 victory.
Sharp said: “He came in and I was very impressed by him at the Tottenham game. He gave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Younes-Kaboul-c37543 a really hard time and not many people do that.”
“His touch was good, he could bring other players into it. This was something Everton were crying out for.”
The Toffees finished the 2011/12 campaign in an emphatic manner, compiling a nine match unbeaten streak right at the death of the season. And Everton’s late charge was spearheaded by the Croatian footballer who scored a brace against Norwich City, Fulham
and Manchester United in the month of April and was subsequently won the Premier League’s Player of the Month award.
Sharp also underlined the fact that not only does Jelavic possesses a killer finishing touch, but he also plays the central role up-front to create opportunities for the other players as well.
Talking about the Toffees game against the Spurs in the second half of the season, the Scott claimed that he foresaw the striker assuming the key role in front of goal for Everton and lauded his clinical finishing.
He said: “I remember commentating on the radio that night and saying that I thought we might have found a centre forward, somebody who can do all the things you're looking for in a centre forward.”
He also believed that Everton’s strong finish to the season owes much to their phenomenal home record, which saw them amass 7 wins in their last 8 league games at Goodison Park.
