Question:

Sharp stabbing abdominal pains?

Sometimes, several minutes before I have a bowel movement, I get unbelievably horrible pains in my abdomen that last for a few seconds then go away. Then I know I need to use the bathroom. This has been happening for years, I don't remember when it started. I have never said anything about it because usually afterwards I just forget about it.

I have endometriosis, is this why I have this pain? I read that it can cause painful bms, but it doesn't hurt during, just before. Sorry, this is gross. Please, only serious answers. And don't say, "I don't know, see your doctor" - I will ask her about it at my next appointment, but I just want to know if anyone has any knowledge on this.

I sometimes have a little constipation, which is normal with endo, but don't have diarrhea or any other normal symptoms of IBS, so I don't think it's that.

  1. I have adenomyosis, which has many of the same symptoms as endo. It is just located at different part of the uterus, so I understand the pains very well. Yes, the pain you are getting is probobly associated with the Endo, as one of the symptoms is painful bowel movements. Especially with your period because everything is swollen. So try to take notice when you seem to get the pains...if it is during that time or right before or if there is even a pattern so you can let your doctor know. sometimes just knowing what the problem is can make a little difference...you dont feel like youre crazy.

  2. I have pain before and during bowel movements too and believe that it could be related to endometriosis as well as IBS.

I also get constipation, although get constipation very often and over recent weeks have added more fibre to my diet and started some new medication for IBS and bowel spasms that was prescribed to me by my gastroenterologist.

I would recommend if this keeps happening to you, that you follow through and talk with your doctor to see what she says and what she can recommend to you.

    Good luck :)
