Shashank Manohar, the former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), recently stated that the team’s senior players need to groom and guide the budding talent throughout the ranks, before the fresh lot officially takes over.
Manohar, who announced his resignation as the President of the Board during the recent 82nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BCCI, following completion of his tenure, comprehended that it is time to bring in a complete overhaul in the national
squad since many senior players, such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 are on the threshold of stardom.
The official also said that some of the younger lot have been playing with the national team and have truly proven their abilities as the nation’s future stars and for the matter, the Board will have to make sure to devise a process that would allow the
seniors to groom the juniors.
“Some of them have had stints with the national team, and have proved their worth in the shorter forms of the game. The Board would like to ensure a process wherein the seniors groom the juniors, and hand over the reins to them in due course,” Manohar stated
during the AGM.
However, Manohar’s suggestions to bring about a transition on the national squad come especially after India’s humiliating streak of defeats in the preceding tour to England where the Men in Blue suffered a complete whitewash across all the formats, starting
with the 4-0 loss at the Test series, then at the single Twenty20 match, and finally a 3-0 defeat at the eventual One Day International series.
As for Manohar’s focus on the younger lot, it was mainly the fresh faces, such as Rahane and Ravendra Jadeja, which really made a mark for India, exception being http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 out of the experienced lot.
However, agreeing to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s disappointing performance, Manohar also remained confident in saying that the Men in Blue will surely make a strong comeback.
